One simply needs a ViAcard, or any other Card as long as it has the ViA® Wallet and is a smart chip card. When the consumer pays, the smart chip creates a VOW Secure Token, a digitally-signed PKI data record. When using a digitally-signed record (a VOW Token), the transaction is stored in the MiniPay™ Device.
The ViA MiniPay™ Device offers true and real OFFLINE Payment Transactions which are actually accepted and verified by a Terminal in real time. The purchase can be completed on the spot, even when there is NO connection to any other system.
The MiniPya™ Device (MPD) is designed to be used with the Verified Offline Wallet (VOW). One simply needs a ViA® card, or any other Card as long as it has the VOW and is a smart chip card. When the consumer pays, the smart chip creates a secure token (a digitally-signed PKI data record) the transaction is stored in the MiniPay™ Device.
The device does not need to be secure in the same manner as an online POS device needs to be. A standard POS device, such as VeriFone, is engineered to be safe and tamper-protected. It's crucial for an online POS to be protected from any kind of tampering because the POS device itself creates the payment record. An online POS device costs between US $200 - $500. The ViA MiniPay™ Device does NOT create a payment record. The payment record and the VOW Token is made by the smart chip.
